Portable Stage Shipping Across Canada: Freight, Access, and Delivery Prep

Folded MyStage stage decks delivered on a hand truck into a community center hall

Portable stage shipping in Canada starts at our warehouse in Ajax, Ontario. MyStage ships everywhere in Canada except Quebec, and freight is quoted per order: send us your products and postal code, and you get a shipping estimate before you buy. Your part is preparing the delivery site, checking the shipment, and planning storage.

Where do MyStage orders for Canada ship from?

Canadian orders ship from our warehouse in Ajax, Ontario. Because the stage is already in Canada when it leaves, there are no customs or brokerage steps for you, and your school, church or venue is not the importer. That keeps the paperwork on your side to the order confirmation and the delivery receipt.

Shipping from inside the country also means your freight quote covers one domestic move, from Ajax to your postal code. If you are comparing suppliers, ask each one where the goods ship from and who is responsible for customs, since that changes what lands on your desk.

Which parts of Canada can MyStage ship to?

MyStage ships everywhere in Canada except Quebec. It does not ship to Quebec addresses, so a Quebec location will need a different delivery address outside the province or a different supplier.

For remote and northern addresses, including Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, confirm the address when you request your quote. Do the same for rural sites, island communities, or campuses where the delivery point is not obvious from the street address. Giving the full address and a short note about access up front avoids a revised quote later.

How does a stage freight quote work in Canada?

Stage freight in Canada is quoted per order, and you get the estimate before you order. Checkout on the Canadian site does not calculate freight automatically, so the quote is a separate step you complete first.

  1. Choose your products. Pick a stage size from the MyStage Canada portable stage range, or use the Stage Builder to work out the decks for any footprint and see the price.
  2. Send the list and your postal code. Contact MyStage through the contact page, by email at info@mystagecorp.com, or by phone at 858-229-8388.
  3. Describe the delivery site. Say whether you have a loading dock, a forklift or pallet jack, and whether the stage has to go inside or upstairs. The checklist below covers what to include.
  4. Review the estimate. Read what the quote includes and ask about anything it does not spell out, then place the order.

For the full ordering process, read how to buy a portable stage in Canada. Product prices are in US dollars. Your card issuer converts the charge to Canadian dollars at its own rate and may add a foreign transaction fee, so check with your finance office or card provider. Confirm any applicable taxes on your quote.

When the estimate comes back, these are the questions worth asking in writing:

  • What is the estimated delivery time to my postal code?
  • Is a liftgate available for my address, and is it included in this quote?
  • Is inside delivery available, and is it included?
  • Can the carrier call ahead or book a delivery appointment?
  • How many pieces will arrive, and what is the total shipment weight?
  • Are there any limits on the type of address, such as a residence, a school, or a site with restricted hours?

What arrives when a portable stage is delivered?

A MyStage order arrives as folded decks plus whatever accessories you ordered. Every stage is built from the same 4 ft x 4 ft (1.22 m x 1.22 m) aluminum deck, and each one folds in half to 2 ft x 4 ft (0.61 m x 1.22 m) with a shoulder strap so one person can carry it.

Each deck weighs 42 lbs (19 kg). That makes it simple to estimate the deck weight for your plan: multiply the number of decks by 42 lbs (19 kg). An 8 ft x 16 ft (2.44 m x 4.88 m) stage uses 8 decks, which is 336 lbs (152 kg) of decks.

That figure is decks only. Railings, stairs, skirting, castors, gear bags, spare legs and any packaging are extra, so ask for the total shipment weight on your quote before you plan who unloads it. Legs come with every deck, so you do not need to order them separately for a standard setup.

Use the deck count for planning, too. Eight folded decks at 2 ft x 4 ft (0.61 m x 1.22 m) each tells you how much floor or shelf space to clear before the truck arrives. The guide to portable stage sizes and metric measurements lists deck counts for common stage sizes.

Freight-prep checklist by delivery site

Match your site to the rows below, check the items on the left, and put the questions on the right into your quote request. Most sites fit more than one row, so read all four.

Site typeWhat to check on siteWhat to ask on your quote
Loading dockDock hours, whether trucks of all sizes can back in, who has the key or code, and a clear path from the dock to storage. Can the delivery be made at a dock? Can the carrier call ahead so someone is at the dock?
No dock (street-level)Where a truck can stop, whether the curb or parking area is level, and how far it is from the truck to the door.Is a liftgate available for my address, and is it included? What happens if the truck cannot get close to the building?
Forklift or pallet jack on siteWhether the equipment is working, who is trained to use it, and whether it can reach the truck or dock. How is the shipment packed, and how many pieces will there be? What is the total shipment weight?
No forklift or pallet jackHow many people will unload, and whether you have a cart or dolly. Plan on one person per folded deck at 42 lbs (19 kg).Is a liftgate available? Will the shipment arrive in pieces small enough to unload by hand?
Inside delivery neededThe route from the door to the storage room, including stairs, elevators, door widths and turns. Is inside delivery available, and is it included? Are stairs or elevators a factor in the quote?
Inside delivery not neededA safe spot inside the entrance where your team can stage the shipment before moving it.Is curbside or dock delivery the default for my address? Can the carrier call ahead?

What is a liftgate delivery?

A liftgate delivery is one where the truck has a powered platform on the back that lowers freight from the truck bed to ground level. It is used when a site has no loading dock, so heavy pieces do not have to be lifted down by hand.

Whether a liftgate is available or included varies by shipment, so ask about it on your quote if your site has no dock.

How should you prepare the delivery site?

Prepare the site by deciding who receives the stage, how it moves from the truck, and where it goes. Settle these before you book, so the delivery is not left waiting at a locked door or unloaded with no one to check it.

  • Loading dock or not. If you have one, confirm its hours and give that address on the quote. If you do not, note it on the quote request and ask about a liftgate.
  • Who will be there to receive it. Name one person who can sign, count pieces and inspect. Give that name and a phone number when you order, and make sure the front office or custodial staff knows a delivery is coming.
  • A cart or dolly. Folded decks carry by shoulder strap, but a cart speeds up the move from the door to storage. MyStage sells a Gator Utility Cart, or use one your facilities team already has.
  • Stairs and elevators. Walk the route before delivery. Check elevator access during school or service hours, and note any stairs, narrow doors or tight turns.
  • Where the decks will be stored. Clear the space in advance. Folded decks are 2 ft x 4 ft (0.61 m x 1.22 m), and a gear bag holds one folded deck if you want to protect them in storage.

Schools have extra timing factors such as bus loops, recess and holidays when the building is locked. The guide to portable stages for Canadian schools and universities covers how schools plan storage and setup.

How do you check the shipment when it arrives?

Check the shipment before you sign for it. Once a delivery receipt is signed clean, it is harder to show that a problem happened in transit.

  1. Count the pieces against your order confirmation. Have the confirmation printed or on a phone before the truck arrives.
  2. Inspect before signing. Look for crushed corners, punctures, or anything that looks dropped. If something is wrong, write a short note on the delivery receipt describing it.
  3. Photograph any damage. Take photos of the packaging and the product, with the shipping labels visible where possible.
  4. Contact MyStage right away. Email info@mystagecorp.com or call 858-229-8388 with your order details and photos. MyStage stages carry a 60-day manufacturer guarantee covering defects.

For anything about returns or refunds, ask MyStage before you order so you know the terms in advance. The checklist of what Canadian buyers should confirm before ordering an event stage covers the other questions to settle first.

How long does setup take after delivery?

Setup is fast: one person sets up a deck in about a minute, with no tools. For planning, count one person per deck, then add time for railings, stairs and skirting.

Each deck stands on five legs, four angled legs plus a center leg that reduces bounce. Standard legs adjust from 4 to 28 in (10 cm to 71 cm), and the legs let you level the deck on uneven ground outdoors. Decks connect to each other with wingnuts, so an 8 ft x 16 ft (2.44 m x 4.88 m) stage is 8 decks set up side by side and joined.

A first setup right after delivery is a good final check. Unfold every deck, set each at the height you plan to use, and confirm all parts are present while the delivery is still fresh.

Frequently asked questions

Does MyStage ship portable stages to Quebec?

No. MyStage ships everywhere in Canada except Quebec. For any other province, send your products and postal code for a freight estimate, and confirm remote and northern addresses when you request the quote.

Will I pay customs or brokerage fees on a stage shipped within Canada?

No. Canadian orders ship from our warehouse in Ajax, Ontario, so there are no customs or brokerage steps for you. Confirm any applicable taxes on your quote.

Why doesn't checkout show my shipping cost?

Checkout does not calculate Canadian freight automatically. Freight is quoted per order, so contact MyStage with your products and postal code and you get an estimate before ordering.

How heavy is a portable stage shipment?

Each deck weighs 42 lbs (19 kg), so 8 decks are 336 lbs (152 kg) of decks. Accessories and packaging add to that, so ask for the total shipment weight on your quote.

Do I need a forklift to receive a MyStage order?

It depends on how your order is packed, which your quote should confirm. A folded deck is a one-person carry at 42 lbs (19 kg), but ask how the order is packed, what it weighs in total, and whether a liftgate is available if you have no dock or forklift.

Request a freight estimate.
