How Much Does a Portable Stage Cost in Canada?

An 8 ft x 16 ft MyStage portable stage with railings, black skirting and stairs in a school gymnasium

A MyStage portable stage costs US$659 for a single 4 ft x 4 ft (1.22 m x 1.22 m) deck, US$2,480 for an 8x8 riser and US$7,080 for an 8x24 stage, before accessories. Your total portable stage cost in Canada also includes freight from our warehouse in Ajax, Ontario (quoted per order), your card's currency conversion and any applicable taxes.

What makes up the total cost of a portable stage in Canada?

Five things make up the total: stage decks, accessories, freight, currency conversion and taxes. Only the first two are fixed catalog prices. The other three depend on where the stage is going, how you pay and what applies to your organization, so they belong on your quote rather than on a price list.

The table below shows where each number comes from, so a budget owner knows which lines can be filled in today and which need a quote.

How much do common stage sizes cost?

Catalog prices run from US$659 for one deck to US$13,600 for a 12x28 stage with railings and skirts. Every stage is built from the same 4 ft x 4 ft deck, so the price climbs with the number of decks and the accessories you add.

Here are five sizes that cover most school, church, venue and event company requests, with exactly what each catalog item includes.

StageSizeWhat is includedCatalog price
4x4 portable stage deck4 ft x 4 ft (1.22 m x 1.22 m)1 deck with five legsUS$659
8x8 portable stage and riser8 ft x 8 ft (2.44 m x 2.44 m)4 decksUS$2,480
8x12 portable stage package8 ft x 12 ft (2.44 m x 3.66 m)6 decks, 4 railings, 3 skirts and stairsUS$4,499
8x16 portable stage package8 ft x 16 ft (2.44 m x 4.88 m)8 decks, 6 railings, 3 skirts and stairsUS$5,999
8x24 portable stage package8 ft x 24 ft (2.44 m x 7.32 m)12 decks, 8 railings and 6 skirtsUS$7,500

Each deck folds in half to 2 ft x 4 ft (0.61 m x 1.22 m), weighs 42 lbs (19 kg) and is rated to hold up to 3,400 lbs (1,542 kg). Standard legs adjust from 4 to 28 in (10 cm to 71 cm), so the same stage works as a low riser or a raised platform without buying a second set.

A single 4x4 deck

One deck is US$659, or US$699 with one skirt. It suits a lectern platform, a conductor's riser or a small speaking spot, and it is the unit you add later if the stage needs to grow.

An 8x8 riser

Four decks make an 8 ft x 8 ft (2.44 m x 2.44 m) stage for US$2,480. It suits a band riser, a choir section or a worship team, and it fits in rooms where a larger stage would block seating.

An 8x12 package with railings and skirts

The 8x12 package with 6 decks, 4 railings, 3 skirts and stairs is US$4,499. A version without the stairs is US$4,299, and the bare 8x12 stage (6 decks) is US$3,720.

An 8x16 package

The 8x16 stage is US$4,960 as 8 bare decks, US$5,775 as a package with railings and skirting, and US$5,999 as a package with 6 railings, stairs and 3 skirts. Check each product page so you know exactly how many railings and skirts the package you pick contains.

An 8x24 graduation-size stage

Twelve decks make an 8 ft x 24 ft (2.44 m x 7.32 m) stage for US$7,080, or US$7,500 with 8 railings and 6 skirts. Stairs are not part of that package, so add them (US$299) if graduates or speakers will walk up onto the stage.

For other footprints, the Stage Builder works out the decks for any size and shows the price. Our guide to portable stage sizes and metric measurements helps you match a footprint to your room.

What counts as a stage package?

A stage package is a single catalog item that bundles a set number of decks with specific accessories, such as railings, skirts and stairs, at one price. A bare stage (for example, "8x16 Portable Stage (8 MyStage decks)") contains decks and their legs only.

The package name lists what is inside, so read it line by line. Two packages of the same size can differ: the US$5,775 8x16 package and the US$5,999 8x16 package are not the same set of parts.

Is a package cheaper than buying decks and accessories separately?

Usually, but not always, so compare the line items before you choose. The stage package cost depends on which accessories it bundles, and the savings change by size.

  • 8x16 with 6 railings, stairs and 3 skirts: bought separately, that is US$4,960 for the decks, plus US$594 for 6 railings, US$299 for stairs and US$174 for 3 skirts, or US$6,027. The package is US$5,999.
  • 8x24 with 8 railings and 6 skirts: separately, US$7,080 plus US$792 for railings and US$348 for skirts comes to US$8,220. The package is US$7,500, a difference of US$720.
  • 8x12 with 4 railings, 3 skirts and stairs: separately, US$3,720 plus US$396, US$174 and US$299 comes to US$4,589. The package is US$4,499.
  • 8x12 with 4 railings and 3 skirts, no stairs: separately, US$4,290. The package is US$4,299, so the two routes cost almost the same.

Building from parts makes sense when you need a mix the packages do not offer, such as railings on only one side or a single step up (US$59) instead of full stairs. Stairs are made for stages up to 28 in (71 cm); a step up suits lower stages.

Why are prices in US dollars, and what will my card charge?

MyStage lists its prices in US dollars, and your card issuer converts the charge to Canadian dollars at its own rate. Some issuers also add a foreign transaction fee, so the Canadian dollar amount on your statement can be higher than a straight conversion.

For a budget request, ask your finance office or card issuer which rate and fees apply, and build that into the approved amount. If your organization pays by a method other than a card, ask MyStage what is accepted when you request your quote.

How is freight to my location calculated?

Freight is quoted per order, based on the products you choose and your postal code. You contact MyStage, and you get a shipping estimate before you order; checkout does not calculate Canadian freight automatically.

Canadian orders ship from our warehouse in Ajax, Ontario, everywhere in Canada except Quebec. MyStage does not ship to Quebec. If your address is in the territories or is remote, confirm remote and northern addresses when you request your quote.

Ask on the quote about anything your site needs at delivery, such as a liftgate, inside delivery, a delivery appointment or a target arrival date. Those details affect your freight cost in Canada and your event schedule, so get them in writing before you pay.

Will I pay customs or brokerage fees?

No. Because orders ship from inside Canada, there are no customs or brokerage steps for the buyer, and you are not the importer.

That keeps the total cost to the lines in the first table above: decks, accessories, freight, currency conversion and taxes. Confirm any applicable taxes on your quote so your purchase order matches the invoice.

What should I send MyStage to get an accurate quote?

Send the products, the delivery postal code and your delivery conditions in one message. A complete request gets you a quote you can put straight into a purchase order or budget approval.

  • The stage size you need, or the product names and quantities from the catalog or the Stage Builder.
  • Accessories: how many railings, whether you want stairs or a step up, skirting quantity and color (black or white), castors and gear bags.
  • Leg needs if your stage height falls outside the standard 4 to 28 in (10 cm to 71 cm) range: Shorties (8 in and 10 in, or 20 cm and 25 cm, settings) or Biggies (up to 36 in / 91 cm).
  • The full delivery address and postal code, and whether it is a remote or northern location.
  • Delivery questions: liftgate, inside delivery, appointment and the date the stage must arrive.
  • Your organization's name and any purchase order or tax details your finance team needs on the quote.
  • A request to confirm any applicable taxes on the quote.

Send it through the contact page, by email to info@mystagecorp.com or by phone at 858-229-8388. For the full buying process, see how to buy a portable stage in Canada and what Canadian buyers should confirm before ordering an event stage.

How can I keep the cost down?

Buy the decks you need now and add more later, because every MyStage stage uses the same 4 ft x 4 ft deck. A school that starts with an 8x8 riser (US$2,480) can grow toward an 8x16 stage by adding decks and connecting them with wingnuts.

Match accessories to how the stage is used. A stage at the standard height in a gym may need railings and stairs, while a low choir riser may only need a step up and skirting. Compare the package and the separate items each time, using the examples above.

If the stage is for occasional use, weigh buying against renting with our guide to portable stage rental vs purchase in Canada. You can browse every size on the MyStage Canada site.
